injustices blog post

Me and my class worked at a soup kitchen and I realized how many homeless people there really are. This experience opened my mind to to a lot of injustices in the world around me. To me one of the biggest injustices in our world is Anti-Semitism and I believe that hating a person for being Jewish or Muslim is unfair because we don't know what their personality is like.

One example of Anti-Semitism is in upstate New York in the Pine Bush Central School District. Jewish children are being bullied. They tell of hearing anti-Semitic epithets and nicknames, and horrific jokes about the Holocaust. The parents of the Jewish kids the sued the school. I found this article fair because it shows how each side reacted. The parents believe it is the schools fault and that they believe the schools an example of this is D.C., now 18, testified that he was “overwhelmed” by the number of swastikas he saw. In eighth grade, he said, he reported one that was about a foot in diameter, which he found in a bathroom; it was removed, but it reappeared quickly. He testified that he stopped reporting swastikas because “nobody was doing anything about them.” fault Philip G. Steinberg, the principle of Pine Bush said “so many” students were being accused of anti-Semitic behavior.

“The issue is not three students doing it all the time; the question is if you have 30 students doing it,” he said. “How do you undo the years of inbred prejudice?”

This article made me realize that that there are injustices everywhere and in places you would never think you'd see it. So after you read this, stop and pay attention to all the injustices around you. When you open your mind to all of these injustices it will be a whole other world in which you could help make a difference.
