“Hurricane
Song,” by
Paul Vulpine is about this boy named Miles who is forced to move in
with his dad because his mother did not have enough space to for
Miles to live. His dad is a musician who lives in New
Orleans and his obsession is Jazz and Miles's obsession is football.
In the beginning of the book they do not get along. When Miles asks
for football equipment for Christmas he got an African drum.
Before
hurricane Katrina, Miles and Pops tried to ignored each other. When
Katrina hit and they where forced to evacuate to the Superdome. They
were forced to help each other. I believe that if Katrina did not
happen Miles and Pops would not have the same relationship at the end
of the story. This is proven in the story, because in the beginning
Pops says not to worry about anyone else, but then later on he
reached out to others to fight off Cain
and Dunham, two gang leaders. Miles
reached out to his dad because he finally played the African drum
that Pops have him and understood his love for music.
In
the end, I believe Paul
Vulpine made the characters progress though the story and also made
you feel very passionately about the characters. This book also
proves that during bad situations people change, like Pops who became
more caring.
